Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati had planned had earlier gained a lot of anger and opposition from Supreme Court for the Taj corridor project. However, she still plans to go ahead with the project on the similar lines near the Taj Mahal. She had earlier confirmed about planning of construction for two ropeways. One of these was to connect to the Taj Mahal with Mehtab Bagh crossways the river Yamuna, and the other connecting Mehtab Bagh with Agra Fort. This plan was confirmed by Tanveer Zafar Ai, Vice-chairman of the Agra Development Authority.

In an earlier controversial statement, Mayawati asked PM not to interfere in state affairs. The project is based on the London Eye, the tallest cantilevered reflexion wheel in the world that rises 135 meters above the British capital's skyline. Mr. Ali also added that the preliminary studies in conjunction with a research by experts have been successfully conducted. However, the work on the project would start soon after they get green signal from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and due approval from the Supreme Court.

Uttar Pradesh government representatives are assured of receiving these sanctions. One of the officials has earlier stated that construction will soon start outside the 500 metre protected zone round the Taj Mahal. Although the state government has vindicated the plan as it boosts tourism in Agra, ASI administrators and tradition lovers, yet, are cynical.

Mr. A R Siddiqui, ASI's Superintending Archeologist in Agra expressed hi discontent by saying that the authorities have not sought our clearance so far. He also said that the Supreme Court has given clear rules banning any construction near the shrine and the committee will follow them conscientiously.
